We've got a pretty low bar of what DOESN'T count as progress (which I'm honestly all for, the less murder the better and I'd prefer it if that didn't need specifying, yet here we are...), but what ARE we looking to achieve?
Doom and gloom and realistic chances of survival aside, are we looking at fighting these creatures? Or we just looking at a way of distracting them? Waving our hands and going 'hey, don't eat this planet, try THAT one?'
Which leads me to: are they eating any other worlds or is it just this one?
Are we dead? Like, really? Dead-dead, as a door-nail? Because I think there's been a mistake? And I was thinking maybe that could mean we weren't dead.
I don't think my friend is supposed to be here? And he did go through a portal, so maybe this is just another test and there's a way to find him a portal back?
When you mentioned the resets, you compared it to a saved point in a video game. That locations discovered would revert to their undisclosed positions as it were.
Is the same true of the items within Beacon?
The museum, for example, has a very unique collection. Do you know if the items within are originally from this town, or is it possible that they've been sourced as disparately as we have?
Phew! I'm glad you feel that way! It kinda seems like some people think I got my hand hovering over the reset button, ready to axe you at the slightest slip-up... That's definitely not the case!
But... In terms of what I want you to do, exactly, it kinda depends! All that stuff you listed sounds GREAT to me if you can figure out a way to pull it off. If there was one answer to this problem, I would've told you guys!
Personally? I think the best idea is to find a way to make super duper sure that they either lose interest in us or just uhhh die, I guess. Killing them kinda seems like the simplest path to take, but then it's like, what if there's more?
Maybe our first step should be learning more about them to figure out what kind of plan is gonna work best... And then figuring out what all you guys in town both want to do and are best suited for? Like, fighting them won't make a ton of sense if we don't have the people and resources to do it, you know? But you're a smart guy. I'm sure you've already thought of that.
But, uhhhh, that I don't know! Whether or not they're eating other worlds, I mean. Like, probably? I do know that the World Eaters aren't native to this place, if that helps.
Hmmm, well, first of all, I haven't been here the longest out of everyone, actually. Pretty long, yeah! But Rastus has been here longer than me, and so has another person in town that you guys haven't met yet. She's from Beacon before it went dark, and she'd be a better person to ask these questions to. Once she opts for the GRAND REVEAL of her presence, that is. I'm thinking (read: hoping!!!) it'll be soon.
But okay... I guess to answer your question simply, no, no one's ever been a "mistake", at least not to my knowledge. That's the thing, though - I dunno if "belongs/doesn't belong here" is a good way to be talking about people? I'm not sure we're, like, here for some great purpose anything. I don't think ANY of us belong here, not really!! We just kinda got caught up in it.
I've never met anyone that hasn't passed the "you gotta be dead" entrance exam, though.
The resets are carried out by the forest spirits. Part of the reset command seems to tell them to trash all evidence of the previous group, but I don't know what they do with it and, more to your point, I've heard of them missing stuff before.
So like, is it likely that there's stuff on display at the museum arrived between resets? Nope, but that doesn't mean it's not possible. Does that make sense?
